ICC World Cup 2023: PCB allegedly leaks details of central contract, blames players of prioritising money over national duty

After the catastrophic failure of Pakistan at the ICC World Cup 2023 the politics and blame game in the corridors of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has intensified. Reports of Pakistan players forcing the board into a pay hike have been making rounds while blaming the players for prioritising money over national duty.

As per a report by Cricket Pakistan, the national team players are all set for a hefty pay hike, including over 200% hike in pay for the elite-level players, depending on the category they are put in. The report further added that Pakistan players were insistent on a better pay structure before leaving for the ICC World Cup 2023.

Revealing minute details on the pay structure, possibly through a PCB source, the likes of Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi (Category A players) will have an increase of 202% in monthly salary to 45 lakh Pakistan rupees (Rs 13.25 lakh approx).

The B-category players, comprising the likes of Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq and Shadab Khan among others, are expecting a rise of 144%, leading to a monthly pay of 30 lakh Pakistan Rupees (Rs 8.83 lakh).

The C category players, Imad Wasim, Abdullah Shafiq, Abrar Ahmed and Noman Ali, will see a 135% increase, receiving Rs 17.60 lakh Pakistani Rupess (Rs 5.18 lakh approximately). The D Category players are set for a 127% hike, leading to a monthly pay of 11.32 lakh Pakistani rupees (Rs 3.3 lakh approx).

The D category included Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Ihsanullah, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Waseem Junior, Saif Badar, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Shahnawaz Dahani, Shan Masood, Usama Mir, Zaman Khan, Arshad Iqbal, Aamer Jamal, and Tayyab Tahir.

A player included in the squad but not playing in the XI receives 70% of the match fee. And if the captain doesn't play all matches, he still get an entertainment allowance of $400 per week (Rs 33,000 approx.)
