ICC World Cup 2023: The first round matches of the ICC World Cup 2023 has concluded, and it's clear the tournament has started with an explosion of unprecedented records.
The matches have witnessed some stirring performances from teams around the globe, culminating in the rewriting of several milestones in world cup history.
The cricketing world stood stunned as South Africa's Aiden Markram smashed the fastest ever century and Australia's Mitchell Starc steamed his way into record books with a superlative bowling spell.

Aiden Markram, South Africa's number 4 batter, left his mark on cricket history with the fastest century in the Men's Cricket World Cup when South Africa met Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
He reached the milestone off just 49 deliveries, with a boundary off Sri Lankan bowler Dilshan Madushanka. This magnificent achievement breaks the previous record for the fastest CWC century held by Kevin O'Brien from Ireland against England in 2011.
Along with Markram's feat, South Africa registered the highest ever total at a Men's Cricket World Cup with an enormous total of 428 for 5. This surpassed the previous record of 417 for 6 by Australia against Afghanistan in Perth in 2015.

Apart from Markram, two other South Africans, Quinton de Kock, and Rassie van der Dussen, scored centuries in the match. This is the first time in Men's Cricket World Cup history where three players from the same team have scored a century in the same inning.
This tremendous achievement of three tons by a single team, equals the most hundreds in a men’s ODI innings, a record initially shared by England in 2022 and South Africa twice in 2015.

In a separate match, Australia's left-arm bowler Mitchell Starc set a new record, becoming the fastest bowler to reach 50 wickets in ICC Men's Cricket World Cups.
This occurred during the clash between Australia and India. The speedster secured this feat in 19 innings, overtaking the previous record held by Sri Lanka's Lasith Malinga who reached 50 wickets in 25 innings.

Australia's David Warner became the fastest player to reach 1000 runs in ODI World Cups. He achieved this feat in just 19 innings, surpassing Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and former South Africa batter AB de Villiers, who had both taken 20 innings to lreach the same milestone.

India's Virat Kohli, renowned for his chasing prowess, also had a memorable day against Australia. He made his way into the top 10 for most runs at Cricket World Cups.
Now standing with 1115 runs, Kohli has a realistic chance of surpassing the West Indies cricket legend, Brian Lara. Remarkably, the 'chase master’ also outpaced Tendulkar for the most runs in successful chases in ODIs, accumulating a total of 5,517 runs.
In the tournament opener, all 11 England batters reached double figures in England's total of 282/9, meaning that Jos Buttler's team became the first ever to do so in the history of the international format across both the men's and women's game.
After an electrifying start, the ICC World Cup 2023 holds promise for more breathtaking cricket. With each breathtaking performance, the bar is set higher, and fans around the globe remain eager for more unforgettable moments in the upcoming matches.
This tournament is not only a competition but a showcase of extraordinary talents, a redefinition of possibilities in cricket, and an inspiring reflection of sportsmanship at its best.
