Rohit Sharma added further milestones to his glittering white-ball career as the Indian captain became the joint-fastest to 1000 runs in an ODI World Cup on Wednesday. The Indian skipper achieved the feat against Afghanistan during Match 9 of the ICC World Cup 2023 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Rohit Sharma is tied fastest with Australia's David Warner as the duo took 19 innings to reach 1000 runs in the quadrennial 50-over tournament. The 35-year-old Indian captain had the opportunity to be the lone fastest to 1000 runs as he entered the World Cup with 978 runs in 17 innings.

Rohit Sharma, however, got out for a duck against Australia in their opening match, which Men in Blue won by seven wickets as KL Rahul and Virat Kohli played match-winning knocks after India lost three wickets for just 2 runs on the board.
The opener is now the fourth Indian to score 1000 runs in a World Cup behind Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Virat Kohli. Rohit is also tied with Sachin Tendulkar for most centuries at at World Cup (6).

Rohit Sharma achieved further records during the match as he surpassed Chris Gayle's record of most sixes in the ODI format (553) as he went on to smash a quickfire half-century while chasing 272.
