ICC World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma surpasses Virat Kohli in ODI Rankings, Babar Azam remains atop

By MyKhel Staff

Rohit Sharma has brought his A game to the ICC World Cup 2023 with knocks of 131 and 86 in the last two games after getting out for a duck in the first match. The performance reflected well on his ICC Rankings in the format as the Indian captain climbed to the 6th place in the batting spread.

The new position in the ranking also saw him get ahead of Virat Kohli (711 ratings), who is tied at World No. 8 with England's Dawid Malan. This is also the first time that Rohit Sharma (719 ratings) has surpassed Virat Kohli in the ICC ODI Rankings while Shubman Gill (818) is the highest-ranking Indian at World No. 2.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam continues to be at the top of the list with an 836 rating despite scoring 65 runs in three matches, including a half-century against India. World No. 2 Shubman Gill struggled with illness early in the World Cup and only played the match against Pakistan, where he scored just 14.

Virat Kohli has been firing runs as well with two half-centuries so far (85 and 55*) before scoring 16 runs against Pakistan. South African batter Quinton de Kock (742) moved closer to the top two as the southpaw scored back-to-back centuries and improved a spot to World No. 3, replacing his teammate Rassie van der Dussen.

Meanwhile, star left-arm pacer Trent Boult has been having a good run at the World Cup, as he has picked three wickets while being really miser while giving away runs. Boult has also advanced a position higher and is only behind Aussie pacer Josh Hazlewood, who holds the top spot.

In the bowlers' ranking, the top five remain unchanged with Australia's Josh Hazlewood (660), New Zealand's Trent Boult (659), and Mohammad Siraj (656) occupying the top three spots. Kuldeep Yadav is the second bowler among the top 10 as he holds the No. 8 spot with 641 rating.
