Shubman Gill will not be part of India's squad for the ICC World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan on Wedensday (October 11), BCCI has announced today.
The batter has been battling dengue fever and was ruled out from the first match against Australia, and now the apex body of Indian cricket has confirmed he will miss the Afghanistan clash as well.

He is expected to sit out for the upcoming match against Afghanistan in Delhi. India captain Rohit Sharma said on Sunday about Gill's health condition, and it seems the player will take more time to recover completely.
"Team India batter Shubman Gill will not be travelling with the team to Delhi on 9th October 2023. The opening batter who missed the team's first fixture in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai is set to miss the team's next fixture against Afghanistan in Delhi on the 11th of October," a statement from BCCI read.
The player is going to stay in Chennai and will be under medical supervision. Dengue fever is something which requires a lot of rest even after the recovery, and it looks likely he may miss the crucial clash against Pakistan as well.
Ishan Kishan played in place of the opening batter against Australia. Although he was dismissed for a duck, it looks like the southpaw will continue opening with captain Rohit Sharma for the Afghanistan clash as well.
