ICC World Cup Final 2023: 'Can't Deliver Under Presure!' Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer And Shubman Gill Face Wrath Of Fans

By MyKhel Staff

Indian batters faced the wrath of their fans after India's ICC World Cup Final 2023 didn't go as per plan with the side putting just 240/9 in 50 overs against Australia after sent to bat first at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (November 19).

The fans took to X, formerly Twitter to vent their anger as there was a dry spell of no boundaries after India lost three wickets by the 11th over, including that of Rohit Sharma. The skipper scored a 31-ball 47 but the likes of Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer (4 runs each) and Suryakumar Yadav (9) failed and faced the ire of the fans the most.

KL Rahul (66 runs off 107 balls), Virat Kohli (54 off 63) and Rohit Sharma were the only batters to make sizeable contributions on the day but faced criticism from some quarters for not seeing their job through. Rahul, in particular, was blamed of playing too slow as fans expected him to score more runs after settling down.

However, barring, Rohit Sharma's innings, no batters really looked set on the pitch or able to throw their bats around to score runs quickly in the innings given the slow and dry pitch used for the match at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Mitchell Starc was the most successful bowler for the Aussies with a spell of 3/55 while Josh Hazlewood (2/60) and Pat Cummins (2/34) bowled crucial spells as well. Skipper Cummins, in particular, bowled 30 dot balls during his spell while Glenn Maxwell got the all-important wicket of Sharma, who miscued the spinner while trying to hit him big. Travis Head deserved equal credit for taking a stunning catch running from the point position.

In response, Australia were made to struggle by Jasprit Bumrah (2 wickets) and Mohammed Shami (1) as the five-time champions lost three wickets inside nine overs with merely 50-odd runs on the board.
