ICC World Cup Final 2023: 'Babar Laughed' Pakistan fans celebrate India's top-order collapse

By MyKhel Staff

Pakistan fans were spotted rejoicing on social media after India's top-order collapse during the ICC World Cup Final 2023 against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday (November 19). India lost three wickets in quick succession after Rohit Sharma's aggressive start.

While the hashtag 'Babar Laughed' trended on Twitter since Babar Azam was spotted having a laugh with friends in a video, Pakistan fans found it hilarious that the Pakistan captain must be laughing now as well with India struggling. We take a look at some of the reactions.

Sent to bat first, Rohit Sharma went after the Australian bowlers from the word go. However, Australia looked prepared for the onslaught as suggested by their unique field placements. That didn't bother Sharma much, who went about his business throughout the ICC World Cup 2023.

However, Shubman Gill fell after scoring just four runs while Shreyas Iyer contributed exactly the same as the impact of Sharma's 31-ball 47 was reduced with India going down to 81/3 by the 11th over.

Gill was sent packing by Mitchell Starc as the Indian opener failed to connect with a short delivery and mistimed his hook shot straight to Marnus Labuschagne at mid-on. Sharma continued clobbering the bowlers but right after hitting Glenn Maxwell for a six, he edged a flighted delivery to Travis Head at cover for a brilliant diving catch.

Shreyas Iyer soon followed as he nicked a delivery by Australian skipper Pat Cummins to Jos Inglis behind the stumps. At the time of writing, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul helped India recover to 135/3 in 26 overs with Virat Kohli reaching half century.

Prior to the match, experts suggested that the pitch used for the game was the same as the India vs Pakistan match and appeared dry with patches on it for spinners to exploit. However, if dew sets in, that could play to the advantage of batters in the second innings.
