ICC World Cup Final 2023 Report Card: India vs Australia Players' Rating, Who was the biggest flop?

By MyKhel Staff

ICC World Cup Final 2023 ended in a heartbreak for India as Australia became a record six-time champions by defeating the hosts by six wickets in a one-sided final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. MyKhel rates the performances of all the players on a scale of 1 to 10.

It was a lopsided final that saw Australians dominate all aspects of the game while India ended up meekly surrendering after losing a crucial toss. We straightaway get down to business, starting with the Indian players first.

Shubman Gill: Rating 0/10

Shubman Gill finished among top five run-getters for India at the ICC World Cup 2023 but was at fault for throwing away his wicket with a poor-shot selection early in the powerplay.

Rohit Sharma: 3/10

Rohit Sharma scored a quick 31-ball 47 and may have bagged few more ratings from us if not for his poor captaincy calls on the day. While he wanted to bat first after winning the toss ignoring the dew factor, Rohit Sharma unsuccessfully shuffled the batting line-up by sending Ravindra Jadeja to bat ahead of Suryakumar Yadav. Not to forget, throwing away his wicket with a rash shot to Glenn Maxwell.

Virat Kohli: 6/10

Virat Kohli continued his fine show with his sixth half century this ICC World Cup 2023 but should have stayed longer and scored his 51st century, especially after setting the tone in the semifinal with his world record century.

KL Rahul: 5/10

KL Rahul's performance with the bat left the fans divided as some felt he held on to one of the ends with a gritty knock of 66 while some felt playing 107 balls or hitting just one boundary during the stay wasn't an ideal knock in a final. He, however, lost some points as his wicket-keeping early on with the new ball wasn't the best but he did take a good catch of Mitchell Marsh.

Ravindra Jadeja: 1/10

Ravindra Jadeja is often regarded as a player, who performs under pressure while his heroics in the IPL 2023 final is still fresh but the all-rounder disappointed both with the bat and the ball on the day as he scored just 9 while taking no wickets (0/43) with dew coming in.

Shreyas Iyer: 0/10

Shreyas Iyer had an unforgettable final as his World Cup final lasted just three balls with Pat Cummins removing with a peach of a delivery for just four runs. A lot was relying on the batter as he scored 500-odd runs in the tournament and scored a century in the semifinal.

Suryakumar Yadav: 0/10

It was painful to watch Suryakumar Yadav to bat on the day as Australian had him figured out on the day. SKY, who carries the reputation of playing the big shots, wasn't allowed any pace by Australian bowlers to work on while his reluctance to keep striking despite being the only recognised batter made little sense.

Mohammed Shami: 5/10

Mohammed Shami provided a bright start to India by taking a wicket early on and that too of dangerman David Warner. But that was all he could do and was enough to see him as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament ahead of Adam Zampa by a solitary wicket. However, taking seven wickets in the last game, the fans expected much more than just satisfactory as the pacer looked not at his best to start with the new ball.

Jasprit Bumrah: 6/10

Jasprit Bumrah bowled much better than Shami with the new ball as it has been his key strength. However, once the ball lost its shine, Bumrah's impact reduced. He still was the best bowler for India on the day as he was the only one who worried Head and Labuschagne.

Kuldeep Yadav: 1/10

Kuldeep Yadav's final ended without a wicket as the bowler looked helpless with dew factor coming in. Travis Head troubled him early on as he clobbered him for a huge six in the cow corner.

Mohammed Siraj: 3/10

Mohammed Siraj was made ineffective following a decision to hold him for Shami and spinners early on in the game but the pacer did back the consolation wicket of Travis Head in the closing stages of the game.

Australia

Travis Head: 10/10

Travis Head had an excellent World Cup and saved his best for the last with a knock of 137 runs off just 120 balls.

Marnus Labuschagne: 8/10

Marnus Labuschagne's innings wasn't as flawless as Head but Australia needed someone to stay at the other end with Head till the end and the youngster produced that with a knock of 58 not out.

David Warner: 5/10

David Warner didn't had the best final with the bat as he could score only seven but for a 37-year-old southpaw was stunning on the field and threw his body around like a youngster.

Glenn Maxwell: 7/10

Hitting the winning run of ICC World Cup 2023, Glenn Maxwell have some great memories to take from the tournament. All of his seven points on the day are for removing Rohit Sharma at a time when the skipper was going after Australian bowling attack when the pitch had little pace to offer.

Steve Smith: 0/10

Steve Smith had a quiet World Cup by his stature but could only score in the final and left his side in a spot of bother at 47/3. While he was caught lbw by Bumrah, Smith decided not to review the decision and replays later showed the impact was outside off-stump. He also got it wrong while fielding when he was absolute sure Ravindra Jadeja was caught behind but replays found no nick.

Mitchell Starc: 8/10

Mitchell Starc delivered three wickets in the final, starting it all with a short ball to remove Shubman Gill. He took the big wickets of KL Rahul as well.

Pat Cummins: 9/10

Whether it was his call at the toss or bowling, Pat Cummins was spot on with his decisions while removing the dangerman Pat Cummins with a bouncer that played the in-form batter on at 54. He earlier crucially removed Shreyas Iyer as well.

Josh Hazlewood: 8/10

Josh Hazlewood joined the party as well with two crucial wickets down the order of Jadeja and Surya when Indian tailender in the past has time and again frustrated the Aussies.

Adam Zampa: 6/10

Adam Zampa had a quiet game on a slow surface where he was expected to shine but he kept Indian batters in check, giving away just 44 runs in 10 overs as the lone recognised spinner.

Jos Inglis: 7/10

Four caught behind dismissals in an ICC World Cup final, Inglis did his job to perfection.

Mitchell Marsh: 3/10

Mitchell Marsh walked into bat with all the right intentions but getting out after scoring just 15 didn't look nice for Aussies, who suddenly were on the backfoot in a paltry chase.
