ICC''s anti-corruption wing to keep tab on players

Ahmedabad, Feb 19 (PTI) The anti-corruption wing ofInternational Cricket Council (ICC) would maintain a vigil onthe players in World Cup to ensure that they are notinfluenced by anyone, a top police official said here today.

"A few restrictions have been imposed on the playersas well as on the persons meeting them during the course oftheir stay for World Cup matches," Joint Commissioner ofPolice Ahmedabad Satish Sharma said.

"ICC has sought help of the police in ensuring that nounwarranted persons find entry in hotels where the playersare putting up, and we are supporting them," he said.

"But, it is the ICC which lays down the guidelinesfor players that whether they can go out of hotels or not andwho can meet them," Sharma said.

The ICC officials and team security officers are intouch with our officers, he said adding that the prime duty ofthe police is to provide security cover and we have done that.

On February 21, the first match of ICC World Cup-2011in Ahmedabad is scheduled to be played between Zimbabwe andAustralia at the Motera stadium here.

The district police has made an elaborate securityarrangements to avoid any untoward incident during the match.
