If bowlers learn from mistakes India can stop 5-0 result: Ravi Shastri

Canberra, Jan 19: Indian team's director Ravi Shastri on Tuesday (January 19) defended his bowlers and felt if they learn from their mistakes they can avoid 0-5 whitewash against Australia in the ongoing ODI series.

Australia have completed hat-trick of wins and hold an unassailable 3-0 lead. In all three games, the hosts successfully chased down targets - 310, 309 and 296. Now the focus shifts to the 4th ODI tomorrow (January 20) in Australia's capital city Canberra.

Ravi Shastri, as always, has come out and defended the Indian team

Speaking to the media on the eve of the match, Shastri said there was "no shame" in the way the team had played so far in the 5-match rubber.

"I think it's a huge learning curve. There is absolutely no shame in the way they have played in spite of the results. Because I know there is only one way to go after this tour of Australia and that's going up," Shastri said on Tuesday.

"I know what happened 12 months ago after the Test series and I know where we stand today as far as the Test match team. I see no reason why after this series, am sure the bowlers will learn and we can go places. So disappointed yes because let us be fair we could have pulled one back especially in Melbourne (3rd ODI). But didn't happen and Australia played well," he added.

When queried whether the Indian bowling attack was capable of avoiding a whitewash, he said, "It's a learning curve. If they learn from their mistakes they will stop it."
