I''m happy Tendulkar has equalled my WC record: Miandad

Karachi, Feb 20 (PTI) Former Pakistan captain JavedMiandad is relieved that his record of six World Cupappearances -- the most by any cricketer -- has been equalledby a legend like Sachin Tendulkar.

The ongoing World Cup is Tendulkar''s sixth, whose firstappearance in the quadrennial extravaganza came way back in1992 in Australia and New Zealand.

"It is always good when a great player manages to equalor surpass a record set by you. I am happy Tendulkar hasequalled my record of World Cup appearances. Given hisdedication and commitment he deserves this honor," Miandadsaid today.

The former great, who played in World Cups from 1975 to1996, said he knew from experience just how much hard work andcommitment was needed to play on for so long.

"I think it just shows how passionate Tendulkar is abouthis game and career. I congratulate him because he has workedhard. He is an example for youngsters."

Miandad also has no doubts that Tendulkar is among thetop batsmen in cricket history. "I don''t need to say this ashis records speak for itself and the way he is going he willachieve many more," Miandad added.

Miandad, who played his first World Cup at the age of 18,witnessed the Test debut of a 16-year old Tendulkar in theKarachi game in 1989.

"To keep on going for so long, it is amazing and I thinkhis one burning ambition will now be to help India win thisWorld Cup. This is one glory he has not got as yet. His formwill be crucial to India''s chances of winning the tournament."PTI Corr AH
