Kohli does a Sehwag to reach record ton
The 'Nawab of Najafgarh' struck a century in the royal city of Mysuru. He scored a superb 136 off 170 balls (strike rate 80.0) with 16 fours and 3 sixes. Unlike the Sehwag of the old, he went from 95 to 100 not with a six but all singles. This was his 42nd ton in first-class cricket.
At the Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Stadium (Gangothri Glades) on Thursday (October 22), Sehwag was at his best for Haryana against Karnataka on the opening day of their 4-day Ranji Trophy game. (Was 'scared' of 1 bowler: Sehwag)
Sehwag bid adieu to international cricket and IPL on his 37th birthday on October 20 (Tuesday). And 2 days later he picked up his bat and delighted the Dussehra holiday (Ayudha Puja) crowd in Mysuru. In his previous 2 matches for Haryana this season, Sehwag had scored 92 (against Maharashtra), 37 and 51 (against Delhi).
Before start of play today, Sehwag took to Twitter to reveal how excited he was to play his first game post-retirement. "First game after my retirement against Ranji champion. Wow," he tweeted.
Earlier, Sehwag won the toss and opted to bat first against the defending champions. The visitors lost 2 wickets early, at the score of 53. HS Sharath took a hat-trick after Sehwag's century as Haryana made 319/8 in 87 overs at stumps on day 1.
The right-hander moved to Haryana this season from Delhi. He is captaining the side and batted at number 3 today.
