Good Decision by BCCI! Bangladesh Should Boycott India! Social Media Cross-Border Firing Erupts After Mustafizur Rahman Dropped From IPL 2026

The decision to exclude Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL 2026 squad of Kolkata Knight Riders has triggered a wave of strong reactions on social media, with fans from both India and Bangladesh expressing sharply contrasting views.

The move, directed by the BCCI and confirmed by secretary Devajit Saikia, has gone far beyond cricket, reflecting the wider political and social tensions between the two neighbouring countries following the assassination of Osman Hadi and murder of Dipu Das.

On Indian social media platform X (formerly Twitter), a large section of fans welcomed the BCCI's decision. Several users felt that Mustafizur should not have been picked in the first place, praising the board for what they described as a "clear and firm" stand.

Many applauded the fact that KKR has been allowed to name a replacement, calling the move both practical and symbolic. Some fans explicitly thanked the BCCI leadership, with a few singling out Saikia for taking decisive action. Others argued that national sentiment must take precedence over franchise interests, especially given the current situation in Bangladesh, and felt the board had acted in line with public opinion.

However, not all reactions were celebratory. One post, while supporting Mustafizur's removal, went on to make broader and controversial calls involving international boycotts and bans, highlighting how emotionally charged and polarised the discourse has become online.

Here are some of the reactions from Indian fans on X.

''BCCI asks KKR to drop Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL squad. He shouldn't have been picked in the first place. Good on BCCI for taking a clear decision atlast'', a fan expressed on X.

''KKR has been instructed to release Bangladesh player Mustafizur Rahman, and the franchise will be allowed a replacement. A very welcoming step'', another fan acknowledged the decision.

''BCCI Secretary has confirmed that board has asked KKR to release Mustafizur from the IPL squad. Yes yes yes Well Done BCCI special Thanks to Devajit saikia'', an user thanked BCCI secretary.

''Good decision by BCCI to ask KKR to release Mustafizur Rahman from IPL 2026 squad, considering the current situation in Bangladesh. National sentiments matter. KKR can get a replacement too'', an Indian fan made his feelings felt.

Across the border, the response on Facebook from Bangladeshi fans was equally intense but largely critical of the IPL and Indian cricket authorities. Many users called for Bangladesh to boycott matches against India, including World Cup fixtures, with some suggesting that games should be shifted to neutral venues such as Sri Lanka. Others urged fans to stop watching the IPL altogether and even proposed protests against television channels broadcasting the tournament.

Several Bangladeshi supporters framed Mustafizur's exclusion as an insult to national pride. One widely shared sentiment stated that the fast bowler's honour was worth far more than any IPL contract, portraying his omission as a matter of dignity rather than loss. Some users argued that the Bangladesh Cricket Board should take a stronger stand, including cancelling bilateral series with India or officially distancing itself from the IPL.

"Bangladesh should also boycott World Cup matches against India and all matches against India should be shifted to Sri Lanka'', a Bangladeshi user commented on a post.

''Bangladesh must boycott watching IPL matches and the channels that broadcast the matches should be protested against'', another fan expressed.

"Such decisions coming from a cricket board should be condemned by the Bangladesh Cricket Board. All series against India should be cancelled. The Bangladesh Cricket Board should directly boycott this Indian league'', a fan slammed the BCCI.

''Our Mustafizur's honour is a thousand times more valuable than 9 crores. Therefore, I consider the decision not to allow him to play as a positive one'', a Bangladeshi said.

The contrasting reactions underline how a single administrative decision in cricket can quickly escalate into a broader flashpoint reflecting political mistrust and public anger on both sides. While the BCCI has not announced any wider policy regarding Bangladeshi players, the backlash following Mustafizur Rahman's omission shows that the issue has resonated deeply with fans, turning a sporting call into a highly emotive cross-border debate.
