IND vs AFG 2nd T20I: Afghanistan found themselves in early trouble against India in the second T20I, struggling to maintain the scoring rate despite avoiding the collapse that marked their opening game of the series.

The visitors reached 2/1 after the first two overs, their lowest score at this stage in a T20I. Afghanistan had previously managed 3/1 on two occasions, against the West Indies in Gros Islet during the 2024 T20 World Cup and Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi during the 2025 Asia Cup.

Despite the early setback, Afghanistan have shown their ability to recover from losing their opening wicket without scoring. This was the second instance of the team recording a 50-plus partnership for the second wicket in such circumstances in T20Is.

The previous occasion came in 2015, when Asghar Afghan and Nawroz Mangal put together a 57-run stand against Papua New Guinea in Dublin (Malahide). The partnership followed Mohammad Shahzad's dismissal off the first ball of the chase.

Afghanistan's performance in the powerplay has also been a key talking point during the series. They have accumulated 82/5 across the first six overs in the two matches, registering identical scores of 41 in each game.

However, the wickets have been distributed differently, with Afghanistan losing four wickets in the opening six overs of the first T20I and just one in the corresponding phase of the second match.

India, meanwhile, also scored 82 runs in the powerplay during the series opener, losing only one wicket in the process.

With Afghanistan's batting unit struggling to find the desired momentum, the team faces a challenging task in the remainder of the innings. The shorter boundaries on the surface offer an opportunity to accelerate, but the batters will need to combine calculated aggression with effective shot selection.

A total of at least 180 could prove important for Afghanistan if they are to put India under pressure. The visitors will be hoping to build partnerships and make the most of the scoring opportunities available as they look to recover from their sluggish start.
