IND vs AFG: The first T20I match between India and Afghanistan got off to a delayed start after Rahmanullah Gurbaz complained of a blue light flickering on the sightscreen at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Thursday, January 11.
The Afghanistan opener spotted the light before Arshdeep Singh bowled the first ball of the match and asked the match officials to fix the issue. It took some time before a black tape was put over the light. The play started immediately after.

India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first in the first T20I. Rohit has returned to lead the Indian T20I side after a gap of 14 months.

The three matches in the series will be India's last in the T20I format before entering in the T20 World Cup 2024 which starts from June 1. Virat Kohli is also in the squad but will be available from the second T20I.
Yashasvi Jaiswal missed out on the first T20I due to a sore right groin. Shubman Gill was named in the eleven in the southpaw's absence. Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma has got the nod ahead of Sanju Samson. Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi are the three spinners for India in the series-opener.
Afghanistan are playing without Rashid Khan who is still recovering after his lower-back surgery. Notably, Afghanistan have never won a T20I match against India.
