IND vs AFG: India clinch series 3-0 after dramatic double Super Over and Rohit Sharma show at Chinnaswamy

IND vs AFG: In a highly dramatic match which witnessed double Super Over, India defeated Afghanistan after a double Super Over at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to win the series 3-0.

Afghanistan equalled India's 212-run total to activate the first Super Over. However, another one followed after both the teams managed 16 runs each in the first Super Over. Afghanistan could score only one run in reply to the 12-run target set by India in the second Super Over.

Super Over 1 - Afghanistan innings

Gulbadin Naib, who orchestrated the tied match with his 21-ball fifty, walked out to bat in the Super Over with Rahmanullah Gurbaz. However, Naib got run out while trying to steal a double. A rocket throw from Virat Kohli sent the danger man packing.

Mohammad Nabi took a single on the first ball he faced, before an outside edge from Gurbaz went for a boundary towards third man. A single was then followed by a massive six from Nabi over wide long on.

Controversy erupted on the final delivery as Nabi ran a bye, and then took a double after an under-arm throw from Sanju Samson deflected after hitting his pads and went to Virat Kohli at long-on. Rohit Sharma was livid and did not hide his emotions in front of Nabi. Virat Kohli looked equally perplexed. Regardless, Afghanistan finished with 16 runs in the Super Over.

Super Over 1 - India innings

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal took a single each on the first two balls. Rohit sent the third ball flying over mid-wicket for a six. He dispatched the next delivery over covers for another six to make it 14 from the first four deliveries. A single followed, leaving India in need of two runs from the last ball. However, Jaiswal could manage only a single. Second Super Over was activated!

19 runs were needed off the final six deliveries. Gulbadin Naib hit a four on the first ball and a six on the fourth delivery from Mukesh Kumar and ran a double on the final ball of the 20th over to equal India's total of 212. Afghanistan were also helped by two wides from Mukesh.

Super Over 2 - India innings

As per the rules, India came out to bat first in the second super over. Rohit walked out in the middle with Rinku Singh this time, and slammed a six on the very first delivery. A thick edge went flying over backward for a boundary on the second delivery. A single on the third delivery was followed by Rinku Singh getting out after edging a delivery to wicket-keeper Gurbaz on the first ball he faced.

Sanju Samson walked in next to face Fareed Ahmad, who dismissed him earlier for golden duck, but got run out first ball after Rohit tried to steal a single following the seing and miss from the wicketkeeper-batter.

Having already lost the allotted two wickets in the Super Over, India failed to face the final delivery and Afghanistan were set a 12-run target to win.

Super Over 2 - Afghanistan innings

Gurbaz and Nabi walked out in the middle once again as leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi got the opportunity to defend the 12-run target. Bishnoi did not disappoint and struck on the first delivery to get rid of Nabi. A top-edge landed into the hands of Rinku Singh at long-off. Karim Janat picked a single on the second delivery before Bishnoi struck again on the third delivery to dismiss Gurbaz and win India a dramatic match.

Earlier in the match, Rohit Sharma hit a record-extending fifty T20I hundred. India were four down for 22 runs in 4.3 overs after electing to bat first but an unbeaten 190-run partnership between Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh propelled India to 212/4 in 50 overs.
