IND vs AFG: India suffer humbling T20I record against Afghanistan, It Never Happened Before

India posted a commanding 221/7 in 20 overs in the third and final T20I against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, with Abhishek Sharma producing a record-breaking assault at the top.

Abhishek smashed 108 off just 34 balls, including nine fours and 11 sixes, reaching his century in only 30 deliveries - the fastest T20I hundred by an Indian batter.

Sanju Samson provided excellent support, scoring a fluent 50 off 35 balls, as the pair added 142 for the opening wicket. India raced to 100 inside the Powerplay before Afghanistan fought back in the second half.

IND vs AFG: Three Run-Outs halt India's momentum

Despite the excellent batting performance, India's innings was marked by three run-outs, disrupting the team's finish. Tilak Varma was the first, dismissed for 2 after Rashid Khan produced a brilliant direct hit at the non-striker's end. Rashid was again involved when Ishan Kishan, who made 10 off eight balls, was run out by Rahmanullah Gurbaz. The third came late in the innings when captain Shreyas Iyer, after scoring 29 off 20 balls, was run out for 218/7.

The three run-outs came after India's extraordinary opening partnership and prevented the hosts from having an entirely smooth finish, although 221/7 still gave India a substantial total to defend.

India create Unique Record

This is the joint-most run-out in a T20I innings for the Indian team, as the 3rd time of occurance of three run-outs for them. Also, the Indian team has now suffered three run outs for the first time while batting first in a T20I match.

The other two instances of three run outs were back in 2023 against Australia in Vizag, and 2015 against Zimbabwe in Harare.
