India start their Super 8 journey with a crucial match against Afghanistan on Thursday (June 20).
Rohit Sharma and his team finished on top of Group A with an unbeaten record. India won three of their matches and one match against Canada got washed out. Afghanistan, on the other hand, secured three fantastic victories of their own and only lost to West Indies during the group stages.

As these two teams lock horns in the T20 World Cup, a competitive encounter can be expected. Although Afghanistan have never won against India in the 8 previous T20 matches, the gulf between these two nations have been decreasing over the years.
And Afghanistan shall take confidence from their performance against India when they met last time in T20Is.
Afghanistan and India played in the final match of a 3-match T20I series earlier this year, which was played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
India won the match but Afghanistan pulled off a stellar performance. The match ended in a tie and then the Super Over also ended in a tie. India went on to win the 2nd Super Over to get their win.
Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant unbeaten 121 off just 69 balls as India posted 212 for 4 in their 20 overs. Rinku Singh also came down the order and smashed an unbeaten 69 off just 39 deliveries.
But Afghans showed their mettle and started brilliantly. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (50 off 32), Ibrahim Zadran (50 off 41) and Gulbadin Naib (55* off 23) all scored half centuries while Mohammad Nabi played a fantastic knock in the middle order to take Afghanistan closer to the target. 18 runs were scored in the last over of Mukesh Kumar as Afghanistan finished 212 for 6 in their full quota of overs.
The first super over saw Afghanistan batting first where they scored 16 runs. In the chase, India captain Rohit Sharma hit boundary and a six but India could only match Afghanistan's score.
India managed only 11 runs this time after batting first. But Ravi Bishnoi bowled brilliantly in the Super Over and clinched two wickets within the first three balls as the Afghans lost their two wickets for just a run.
India won the 2nd Super Over and thus clinched the T20I series 3-0.
