Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returned to the T20 fold for the first time since November 2022 as the senior duo were named in the Indian T20I squad to face Afghanistan at home in a three-match series.
With Rohit and Kohli reportedly keen to be part of the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to be held in June this year in West Indies and USA, the duo have been included in the 16-member squad for the final T20I assignment before the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the show-piece tournament.

This is unlikely to be the final roster for the T20 World Cup as the performances in the first half of IPL 2024 also will be considered for selection when the men's selection committee meet to announce the squad in May.
The likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Ishan Kishan, who are missing from the current squad due to injury or being rested will also be in contention for a spot.
Apart from the aforementioned missing players, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yuzvendra Chahal, Rishabh Pant and Prasidh Krishna will also hope to find a ticket for the T20 World Cup 2024.
Now, with IPL just over two months away and this being the last international T20 platform for India before the T20 World Cup in June, we take a look at which IPL team has more representation in the current Indian squad for IND vs AFG T20I series:
Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma (wicketkeeper), Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar.
All the 10 IPL teams will have representatives in the Indian squad for the Afghanistan series with Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals possessing the most. Here is a breakdown of the IPL team-wise players in India T20I squad before T20 World Cup 2024:
CSK: The defending champions have a sole representation in the form of all rounder Shivam Dube, who has been brought into the side a like-for-like replace for Hardik Pandya, who is currently recovering from an injury he picked up during last year's ODI World Cup.
MI: The five-time winners will see their former captain, Rohit Sharma, who is the most successful IPL captain along with MS Dhoni, returning after more than a year to the formar and be part of the squad along with rising middle order batter Tilak Varma.
RCB: The Royal Challengers Bangalore, like CSK, will have one player representing the franchise in the Indian squad, in the form of former captain Virat Kohli, who has returned to the T20 fold for the first time since the last T20 World Cup.
KKR: The Knights also will have one representative in the Indian squad with Rinku Singh, whose stock has been on the rise since last season, retaining his spot in the national T20 set-up.
GT: The 2022 champions, who have lost their original captain, will be represented in the India squad by their newly-named skipper Shubman Gill, who is one among three opening options in the 16-member squad.
LSG: The Super Giants will also have one representative in the form of leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who is likely to be the second wrist spinning option even for the World Cup.
SRH: Sunrisers also have one representation in the form of spin bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar, who is the only right arm finger spinning option in the side right now.
PBKS: The Punjab Kings will have two representatives in the form of wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma and left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh. While the latter may retain his spot for the World Cup, the former may have to make way if he doesn't have a great season.
DC: The Delhi Capitals will be one of two teams to have three players in the Indian squad for the Afghanistan T20Is in the form of all-rounder Axar Patel, wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav and in-form pacer Mukesh Kumar.
RR: The inaugural champions will also have three players representing their franchises in the Indian squad with skipper Sanju Samson, being the second wicketkeeping option, and Avesh Khan being a seam option and Yashasvi Jaiswal, one of the three opening options.
