IND vs AFG: Yashasvi Jaiswal missed out on the first T20I match against Afghanistan on Thursday in Mohali due to a sore right groin, BCCI revealed its official release after the toss.

Head coach Rahul Dravid in the pre-match press-conference on Wednesday had revealed that Yashasvi Jaiswal would be open alongside captain Rohit Sharma in the 3-match T20I series.

Once Rohit Sharma revealed that Shubman Gill would play ahead of Yashasvi Jaiswal, fans and experts were left surprised. However, the BCCI soon cleared the air and informed about Yashasvi Jaiswal's injury.

Yashasvi Jaiswal had opened alongside Shubman Gill in the T20I series against South Africa in December. Shubman Gill was set to miss out after the comeback of Rohit Sharma in India's T20I squad after the gap of 14 months. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal's injury gave Gill an opportunity.

"UPDATE: Mr Yashasvi Jaiswal was unavailable for selection for the first T20I due to a sore right groin," BCCI said.

"I had a chat with Rahul bhai regarding the combination going forward and what we need to do as a group. That's what we'll try to do, but winning is the most important thing. Sanju Samson, Avesh, Yashasvi (who didn't pull off well) and Kuldeep miss out," Rohit Sharma said at the toss after opting to field first.
