IND vs AFG: Yashasvi Jaiswal returns from injury in style, slams 27-ball fifty vs Afghanistan in Indore

IND vs AFG: Yashasvi Jaiswal rightly showed why he is being played ahead of Shubman Gill as he smashed a match-winning 27-ball fifty in the second T20I match against Afghanistan at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday, January 14.

The 22-year-old missed out on the first T20I due to a groin injury. Shubman Gill scored 23 runs off 12 balls in the match, but had to make way for a fit Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The Mumbai batter responded with an impactful innings after his opening partner Rohit Sharma got out for a golden duck. The southpaw first stitched a 57-run partnership off 28 balls with Virat Kohli (29 off 16), and then forged a 92-run stand off 42 balls with Shivam Dube.

Yashasvi Jaiswal hit as many as six sixes, and five boundaries to score 68 runs off 34 balls (strike rate of 200). The impact of his innings was such that India piled up 116 runs in just 10 overs. India also registered their highest T20I powerplay total by collecting 69 runs in the first six overs.

The fifty was the fourth from the Mumbai batter in T20I cricket. Jaiswal, who is almost certain of a spot in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad, has scored 498 runs in 16 T20I matches at an average of 35.57 and a strike rate of 163.82.

India defeated Afghanistan by six wickets to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. The third T20I will be played in Bengaluru on Wednesday, January 2024.
