IND vs AUS: India will take on Australia in the first ODI of the 3-match series at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali on Friday, September 22. The series is the last dress rehearsal opportunity for both sides ahead of the World Cup 2023.
India have rested ODI regulars Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav for the first two matches. The players will be back for the third ODI which will be played on Wednesday, September 27. KL Rahul will lead in Rohit's absence.

Off-spinners Ravichandran Ashwin, Washington Sundar and opener Ruturaj Gaikwad - who are not part of India's 15-member preliminary World Cup 2023 squad - are part of the series. All-rounder Axar Patel suffered a hamstring injury and missed the Asia Cup 2023 final. He will join the team for the third third ODI.
Australia big guns are back for the series but Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc are yet to recover fully. Notably, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Pat Cummins and Glenn Maxwell were not part of the preceding 5-match ODI series against South Africa. Marnus Labushagne has also found a place and is in contention for a World Cup 2023 spot after the injury to opener Travis Head.
India and Australia will kick off their World Cup 2023 campaign against each other in Chennai on October 8.
India will start as favourites to win the first ODI in Mohali. India are high on confidence after winning the Asia Cup 2023. Despite the absence of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav, India have match-winners in each department of the game. Someone like Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin would be raring to have a go at the mighty Australians and gain confidence ahead of the World Cup 2023.
The unavailability of Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc will be a major blow for Australia. The likes of Pat Cummins and Steve Smith are coming after injury layoffs. The Australia team looks a bit rusty and unsettled and might take time to settle in the Indian conditions.
