IND vs AUS 2nd Test: 69/1 to 81/4 - India Surrender Slight Advantage in Final Moments of First Session in Adelaide

By MyKhel Staff

IND vs AUS 2nd Test: Team India's mini collapse from 69/1 to 81/4 handed a slight advantage to Australia in the closing moments of the first session of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide.

After Yashasvi Jaiswal's dismissal in the very first ball, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul had done well to see off the threat from Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Scott Boland. But the duo's fight ended ahead of dinner break on day 1 of the pink-ball Test.

Mitchell Starc

Starc had trapped in-form Jaiswal LBW for a golden duck off the first ball of the Test to put India on the back foot straight away, but Gill, who returned from injury, showed no rust and got going with a couple of boundaries.

KL Rahul, who had not opened his account for 18 balls, got a repreive when he was caught behind off Boland's first delivery, which happened to be a no ball as the Aussie pacer had overstepped.

Two deliveries later, Rahul got another escape after he was put down at slips by Usman Khawaja when he was on 2, allowing the Indian batter to add more runs. Rahul and Gill then looked untroubled as the pair added a fifty run stand for the second wicket.

Rahul was, however, third time unlucky as he edged one off Starc to gully, where Nathan McSweeney took a good low catch to end the fighting stand at 69. Starc then soon removed Virat Kohli for 7 as the star Indian batter managed to guide his attempted leave to Steve Smith at slips.

Gill, who had looked good on his return, soon followed, falling to Boland for 31 as he was trapped LBW in the penultimate over before the dinner break, bringing Rohit Sharma into the middle.

Skipper Rohit, who is batting in the middle order in Tests for the first time since 2018 Boxing Day Test against Australia at MCG, will have to grind it out alongside wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant post the dinner break in Adelaide.
