IND vs AUS 2nd Test: India's Tormentor Travis Head Smashes Third Century in Pink Ball Tests

By MyKhel Staff

Travis Head continued to be a thorn for Team India as the Australian batter smashed his third century in pink ball Tests during day 2 of the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Saturday (December 7).

Head looked at his explosive best as he smashed 3 sixes and 14 fours en-route to his latest feat. Walking in to bat when a couple of wickets fell in the morning session, Head first steadied the ship with Marnus Labuschagne (64) before bringing up his century in 111 balls.

This century saw him go one shy off his compatriot Labuschagne for most centuries in a pink ball Test, while it also took his overall Test hundreds tally to 8, including two against India, having previously scored 163 in the World Test Championship final in 2023.

  • Marnus Labuschagne (Australia) - 4 centuries
  • Travis Head (Australia) - 3 centuries
  • Dimuth Karunaratne (Sri Lanka) - 2 centuries

While he made his trademark Chris Gayle-like celebration he mimicked during the IPL 2024, Head also dedicated his century to his newly born baby after he reached the triple figures in Adelaide Test.

The 30-year-old cradled the bat, gesturing towards his wife and newborn son, Harrison George Head, who were in the stands at the Adelaide Oval before placing the helmet over his bat handle.

Coming back to the match, Head's century took Australia's lead past 100 as the hosts reached closer to 300 in response to India's 180 All Out in the first innings of the Adelaide day-night contest.

Jasprit Bumrah had claimed two wickets to add to his one on day 1 as Australia lost Nathan McSweeney and Steve Smith early, but Head and Labuschagne shared a 65-run stand to take the hosts out of trouble before the tea break on day 2.

Post the first interval, India removed Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey through Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Siraj, but Head continued his stay with skipper Pat Cummins as Australia looked to pile on the lead.
