IND vs AUS 4th T20I: India defeated Australia by 20 runs in the fourth T20I in Australia to take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match T20I series which will conclude with the fifth T20I in Bengaluru on Sunday, December 3.

After being asked to bat first, India posted 174/9 despite none of their batters being able to hit a fifty. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (37) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (32) partnered for 50 runs but Shreyas Iyer (8) and Suryakumar Yadav (1) failed to get going as India were reduced to 63/3 in 8.1 overs.

Later partnerships between Gaikwad and Rinku Singh (46 off 29), and then Rinku and Jitesh Sharma (35 off 19) propelled India to a fighting total. Australia left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshuis picked three wickets for 40 runs.

In reply, Australia got off to a flying start as Travis Head collected 22 runs in the third over from Deepak Chahar. Australia collected 40 runs in the first three overs before Ravi Bishnoi clean bowled Josh Philippe (8) on the first delivery of the fourth over.

Head (31 off 16) was dismissed by Axar Patel (3/16) in the following over. The left-arm bowler later helped India get rid of Aaron Hardie (8) and Ben McDermott (19). Axar Patel clean bowled both the batters to derail the Australia innings.

Tim David (19) and Matthew Short (22) partnered for 20 runs off 20 balls before being dismissed by Deepak Chahar (2/44) in the 15th and 17th over respectively.

40 runs were needed off the last two overs when Mukesh Kumar (0/42) gave away just nine runs in the 19th over. In the final over from Avesh Khan, captain Matthew Wade (36* off 23) could hit only one six as India won their 14th consecutive T20I series at home.

IND vs AUS, World Cup 2023: Who Said What?

Suryakumar Yadav (India captain): Other than toss everything went our way (laughs). Winning was the big boost, especially the way the boys showed character. Everyone expressed themselves irrespective of the situation, and that's what I told them: be fearless, play your game and we'll see what happens. The plan was very clear, to bowl yorkers on the stumps and we'll take it from there. If that doesn't work, we'll see what happens.

Matthew Wade (Australia captain): We just didn't play spin very well in the middle and lost few too many wickets so that left Tim David with too much to do. The bowlers coming in did a very good job, Dwarshuis did a very good job, they did really stand up. We want to continue to learn about the players under the established players since the World Cup is around the corner, so depth around the squad will be key.

Axar Patel (Man of the Match): Since the first game I had been bowling well, so one-odd over for runs doesn't give me stress. I was thinking how to bowl with my strength. Even if one match you go for runs, you stick to your strengths, stay strong mentally and bowl stump to stump. I tried to attack Wade even though he is left-handed. I had to execute my plans and there was no point being scared, what if he hits me. The wicket I got today was off a slower ball relatively, you can't get wickets only one way. That's what I was thinking about in the break; these minor changes make a difference and you know how things work only when you try them out in a match.

Ravi Bishnoi: When Suryakumar Yadav gave me the ball I was ready to bowl. I've been very happy with my bowling all series. The atmosphere in this dressing room is great, we're all of similar age and have played together a lot. (on learning from his personal bowling coach) Sairaj Bahutule backs our strengths and backs us 100%, he says feel free to try new things that you're sure about.
