Australia (AUS) maintained their dominance over India (IND) in the ongoing fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024-25).
Resuming their innings at 311/6, the hosts pushed past the 400-run mark, with Steve Smith contributing a brilliant 140 off 197 balls and Pat Cummins adding 49 off 63.The pair put together a crucial 112-run partnership for the seventh wicket.

As the tailenders added some valuable runs, the Australians ended their innings at 474. Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler for India, picking up four wickets (4/99), while Ravindra Jadeja was also impressive, taking three wickets (3/78) and restricting the damage.
In response to Australia's formidable total, India faced early setbacks. Skipper Rohit Sharma's struggles as an opener continued, despite having batted at No. 6 in the previous two Tests. KL Rahul, who had moved down the order, started well but was dismissed just before tea.
Yashasvi Jaiswal (82 off 118) and Virat Kohli formed a vital 102-run partnership, but a run-out dismissal of Jaiswal triggered a collapse, with India losing three wickets for just six runs in 22 balls. Among those dismissed was nightwatchman Akash Deep. At the close of play on Day 2, India were left at 164/5, trailing Australia by 310 runs, with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease.
But there is a possibility of rain, which could turnout to be a blessing for India as another draw is on the cards, but it is unlikely to predict as of now.
According to Accuweather, there is a possibility of rain on Day 3 of the MCG Test. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM local time, which is 5 AM IST, with showers expected later in the day. The weather service predicts only a 2% chance of rain between 10 AM and 12 PM local time, but the likelihood increases to 49% by 2 PM. It then rises to 57% at 3 PM, remaining at 52% at 4 PM and 49% at 5 PM.
With three days left in the MCG Test, a draw seems unlikely, even if rain interrupts the latter part of the day.
