IND vs AUS 5th Test: Indian Skipper Jasprit Bumrah Returns to SCG After Undergoing Precautionary Scans

By MyKhel Staff

In a boost for India stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah returned to the dressing room at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) after undergoing precautionary scans for an unspecified niggle, which forced him to leave the field during the second day's play of the fifth Test in Sydney.

Bumrah left the field after bowling just one over in the post-lunch session, and was later seen leaving the Sydney venue with team's security liaison officer Anshuman Upadhyay and team doctor.

Bumrah was away from the field for three hours and 20 minutes in total, but his return might have eased worries in the Indian camp ahead of Australia's second innings as India increased their lead to 141 with four wickets to spare.

The Indian pace spearhead, who has struggled with a niggle earlier in the series, had some discomfort, which appeared to be side strain, after bowling one over in his post-lunch spell in the Sydney Test.

During the innings break, the broadcasters reported that Bumrah may have gone for a scan for a back issue. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to officially announce why the skipper had to go for scans midway through day's play.

Indian bowlers stepped up in Bumrah's absence as they bundled out Australia for 181 in their first innings, to take a 4-run lead going into their second innings. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj claimed three wickets each, while Bumrah and Nitish Kumar Reddy took two wickets a piece.

Bumrah, standing in for Rohit Sharma, left the field after he spoke to Virat Kohli, who later took over the responsibilities of a captain. Later, the Fox Sports visuals showed Bumrah leaving the stadium in a SUV.

Earlier, Bumrah surpassed legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi to snap most wickets in an overseas Test series for India. The Indian spearhead dismissed right-hand batter Marnus Lauschagne in the in the fourth over for just two runs. With this wicket, he completed the 32nd wicket of the ongoing series.
