IND vs AUS 5th Test: Prasidh, Nitish, Siraj Step up in Bumrah's Absence as India Bundle Australia For 181

By MyKhel Staff

IND vs AUS 5th Test: Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Nitish Kumar Reddy stepped up in skipper Jasprit Bumrah's absence post-lunch on day 2 of the fifth Test as India bundled out Australia for 181.

After Bumrah left the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) reportedly for a scan due to a back issue, the rest of the Indian pace attack delivered to help the team claim a four-run lead heading into the crucial second innings of the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

India dominated the post-lunch session, taking the remaining five wickets, with Siraj (3/51), Krishna (4/42), and Reddy (2/32) among the wickets column. For Australia, Beau Webster (57) scored a half-century on debut, but once he was dismissed, India swiftly dismantled the tail.

Prasidh ended a 41-run stand post lunch as he castled Alex Carey (21). Nitish Kumar Reddy then removed Pat Cummins (10) and Mitchell Star (1) thanks to some excellent catching at slip and gully from the likes of KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The lanky pacer from Karnataka, Prasidh then removed Webster before Siraj ensured the duo of Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland don't repeat Melbourne heroics, by castling the latter for 9 and bringing to an end the Australian innings at 181.

Earlier, resuming at 9/1, Australia lost Marnus Labuschagne (2) early. Siraj then struck twice in four balls, removing Sam Konstas (23) and Travis Head (4), leaving the hosts at 4 for 39. Steve Smith (33) and Webster (28) added a quick 57 for the fifth wicket, but Prasidh sent Smith back just before lunch.

Prasidh Krishna sent back in-form Smith as India reduced Australia to 101 for 5 at lunch. Smith (33) was involved in a nice little 57-run stand for the fifth wicket with Beau Webster after Siraj had rocked the top-order with two wickets in four balls to reduce the hosts to 39 for 4.
