An uphill task awaits Australia as they take the field against India in the third Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, starting in Indore from Wednesday (March 1).
India have put on a stranglehold on the Aussies as the visitors find themselves trailing 2-0 after the first Two Tests. It will be a crucial tie in Indore as anything but victory will mean Australia squander the BGT yet again.
The Australian team ahead of the 3rd Test is in disarray at the moment. Captain Pat Cummins won't take any part in Indore as he is in Australia with his critically ill mother. Premier batter David Warner is ruled out with an elbow injury, while Josh Hazlewood is also out of the series.
Amid this, the Australian team will be needing some recuperation under their stand-in captain Steve Smith, who will hope to turn things around for them after two hapless displays in the first two matches.
Australia's struggle against the Indian spinners has been exposed quite vividly, but they have made some inexplicable choices which has further decorated their downfall. A disastrous session in Delhi completely shifted the balance against them, and it is to be seen if they refrain themselves from making those same mistakes.
Australia have been missing Mitchell Starc in the series so far. But it seems their pace star will finally return in Indore. Starc has missed the previous matches with a finger injury, but looks set to replace Pat Cummins in the 3rd Test. The player revealed he still has some discomfort in his fingers, but will be playing the match and deal with the issue.

Starc's arrival will definitely be a boost for the away side as they look to half the deficit in Indore.
Cameron Green's absence has been a bigger setback for Australia. The all-rounder was also out with a finger injury and missed the first couple of matches. He is a reliable middle-order batter, and not just that, his ability to bowl will give the Australian captain options with the ball.
Green has been a fantastic performer for them in the past year or so, and his presence can play a pivotal part for them. It has to be seen how much impact Green makes in the match, especially after coming out of an injury, but the player is geared up for the challenges ahead.

Matt Renshaw has been one of the biggest disappointments for Australia in the series. There were a lot of expectations of him, but the southpaw has had a torrid period in the first two matches. He scored two runs in the first match in two innings, and was dropped for the second Test.
Then he came back to the side as a concussion replacement for David Warner in the 2nd inning, and went back to the hut without troubling the scorers. It is only imminent that Renshaw won't take any further part in the series, after just 2 runs in three outings.
