IND vs AUS, Champions Trophy 2025: Rohit Sharma Scripts History, Becomes First Captain To Achieve THIS Huge ICC Record

IND vs AUS, Champions Trophy 2025: Rohit Sharma etched his name into the history books on Tuesday, 4th March after guiding India to a huge 4-wicket victory in the semi-final of the ongoing Champions Trophy in Dubai.

With this win, Rohit has now led India to the final of all ICC tournaments, becoming the first-ever captain to achieve this feat.

Rohit Sharma

In 2023, he led his side to the summit clash of the ICC World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup. In 2024, the Men in Blue reached the final of the T20 World Cup, where his side clinched a thrilling victory and now in 2025, he will play the Champions Trophy Final on 9th March.

After electing to bat first, Australia posted a total of 264 in 49.3 overs. Steve Smith led the charge with a composed 73 off 96 balls, while Alex Carey provided late momentum with a brisk 61 off 57 deliveries. Travis Head contributed 39 runs at the top, but India's disciplined bowling effort ensured the total remained manageable.

In response, India started cautiously but lost both openers within the powerplay. Shubman Gill (8 off 11) and captain Rohit Sharma (28 off 29) fell early, leaving the team at 55/2 after 10 overs. However, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer built a crucial 91-run stand, steadying the innings.

Iyer made 45 off 62 balls before falling to Adam Zampa, while Axar Patel chipped in with a quick 27 off 30 balls, hitting a four and a six. The highlight of the chase was Kohli's 84 off 98 balls (5 fours), though he fell short of a century after being dismissed by Zampa, caught by Ben Dwarshuis.

At 225/5 in the 43rd over, India required a composed finish. KL Rahul (42 off 34) ensured the job was done efficiently*, while Hardik Pandya (28 off 24, 3 sixes, 1 four) provided a late flourish before falling to Nathan Ellis. With the target in sight, Rahul sealed the win with a six off Glenn Maxwell, guiding India home in 48.1 overs.

Rohit emphasized the importance of having all players in good form ahead of the final, as their contributions boost the team's confidence. He mentioned that both New Zealand and South Africa are strong teams, deserving of their semifinal spots. He also highlighted the high-pressure nature of the tournament and the need to take some time off to relax before focusing on the final.

''When you are in the final, you want all the guys in form. All these guys have made an impact and that gives us a lot of confidence. We'll not think too much about it. Both are good teams, that's why they are in the semis. It's a very high pressure tournament, it's always nice to have some time off and relax and then think about the final'', he said at the post-match presentation.
