IND vs AUS: Concerns Grow in India Camp as Skipper Jasprit Bumrah Leaves SCG For Scans

By MyKhel Staff

Big concern in the Indian camp after lunch on day 2 of the Sydney Test against Australia as stand-in captain and leader of the bowling attack Jasprit Bumrah left the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) reportedly to a hospital to undergo scans.

Bumrah, who had dismissed Marnus Labuschagne in the morning session, returned to bowl one over after lunch, but walked off the field after feeling discomfort on Saturday (January 4).The live visuals from official broadcasters showed Bumrah leaving the stadium premises.

In the video clip, Bumrah can be seen changed in his training kit as broadcasters confirmed that India's premier bowler has left for a scan with two support staff members. Bumrah had left the field 30 minutes before Lunch, but later came back to the field to bowl just one over before once again going off the field.

The stand-in captain bowled just one over after lunch, with speeds down in the 125kph range, before walking off the ground. After a half-hour absence, Bumrah left the ground in India training gear, to undergo scans, as per ICC.

"He is going to see some doctors, gets scans ... we will know more in a little while," Indian great Ravi Shastri said on Fox Cricket's broadcast as quoted by ICC. "We just had a feeling he wasn't well. This could have a massive bearing on the series."

Bumrah, who is India's leading wicket-taker this series with 32 wickets to his name, had also suffered a niggle in the Pink Ball Test earlier in Adelaide. Bumrah had gone down on the field and had to be consulted by the physios with suspicion of cramps.

The Indian team management will hope the pacer has not picked up any serious issue with half the Sydney Test and the Champions Trophy to follow with Bumrah being the best bowler of the country.

Who is leading India with Bumrah off the field in IND vs AUS 5th Test?

Bumrah had stepped in as captain, taking over from Rohit Sharma for the Sydney Test. Now, with his absence, former captain Virat Kohli has taken over the role and is overseeing the team as Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna reduce Australia to 164/8 in response to India's 185 All Out.

With five Tests being played in the space of a few weeks, Bumrah would have hoped for some rest, having had a few injuries in the past in his career, but none of the Indian bowlers provided adequate support nor did they allow the Indian team management to allow Bumrah some rest.
