IND vs AUS: Debutant Nitish Reddy stylishly launches a 'Upper Cut Six' off Pat Cummins in BGT Opener

IND vs AUS: In an unforgettable debut moment during the first Test at Perth of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, Nitish Reddy showed no mercy to his IPL captain Pat Cummins by executing a stunning upper-cut six, leaving fans and pundits in awe.

India was in dire straits as the scoreboard read 128/8. Facing the last ball of the 48th over, debutant Nitish Reddy knew the importance of counter-attacking to keep the team's hopes alive. Also Read: IND vs AUS: Bumrah, Rana and Siraj go Boom-Boom to set stage for an enchanting BGT

Meanwhile, Australian skipper Pat Cummins steamed in and pitched in with a short ball, potentially aiming Reddy's right shoulder. As it turned out, Nitish was unfazed by the intimidating ball before he displayed incredible reflexes.

The manner in which he dug in short, arched his back and executed a precise upper-cut for a six was one of the standout moments. The red ball soared over the slip cordon and it narrowly evaded Marnus Labuschagne at a very fine third-man position.

Despite Labuschagne's stellar effort, the ball had enough elevation to clear the boundary for a maximum. He top-scored for India with a resilient 41 off 59 balls, laced with six crisp boundaries and the iconic upper-cut six.

The 21-year-old's brave innings came to an end just nine runs short of a debut fifty. His innings came to a close after he attempted to play a pull shot off skipper Cummins. In the process, he got a thick top-edge that soared over midwicket.

Usman Khawaja who dropped Nitish Kumar Reddy's dolly earlier, sprinted back before he judged the ball perfectly while the ball dropped over his shoulder to complete a difficult catch on the move. Batting first, the visitors were bowled out for 150 at Optus Stadium in Perth.

On the other side of the coin, Australia are in a real spot of bother after losing the top-order batters for cheap scores. Indian skipper Jasprit Bumrah was the wrecker-in-chief as he got rid of Nathan McSweeney (10), Usman Khawaja (8) and Steve Smith (0) whereas debutant Harshit Rana dismissed Travis Head (11) and Mohammed Siraj dismissed Mitchell Marsh (6). At the time of writing this article, Australia's scoreboard reads 38/5 (17 overs).
