IND vs AUS Final: KL Rahul breaks head coach Rahul Dravid's World Cup record for India

IND vs AUS Final: KL Rahul broke head coach Rahul Dravid's record for most dismissals by an India wicket-keeper in a single World Cup edition at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Rahul achieved the feat in the World Cup 2023 final against Australia.

KL Rahul's catch of Mitchell Marsh off Jasprit Bumrah's bowling in the fifth over was his 17th dismissal in the World Cup 2023. With the catch, KL Rahul went past Rahul Dravid's tally of 16 dismissals behind the stumps in the 2003 World Cup.

“During the process of getting fitter as well, I did focus a lot on wicket keeping along with my batting. The medical team at the NCA felt like – with the kind of injury I had, the difficult part would be wicket keeping more than the batting," KL Rahul had said ahead of the World Cup 2023.

“The things that I’ve worked much more harder on is my fitness and my wicket keeping. Then came batting so it was in that order. So, I did work a lot on my wicket-keeping there and yeah, even when I’ve come back here, I’ve spent a lot of time wicket-keeping. I feel like that requires a bit more time and effort from my side.

“It’s as simple as any other skill. The more you do, the harder you work on it, you have the best chance to do well and I am taking wicket-keeping seriously because in India, in these conditions, it will be important to have your technique right, to have your glove-work right," he had added.

In the World Cup 2023, KL Rahul took some exceptional catches behind the stumps and impressed everyone. Apart from his wicket-keeping, he was also highly accurate in helping captain Rohit Sharma in taking DRS calls.
