IND vs AUS Final: 'Selfless' Rohit Sharma leads from front again with another cracking start, fans shower love

IND vs AUS Final: India captain Rohit Sharma led from the front once again and gave his team a cracking start in the World Cup 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

After being asked to bat first, Rohit Sharma walked in the middle with the burden of expectations. He scored three runs from the first six balls of the first over from Mitchell Starc, but cut himself loose in the second over from Josh Hazlewood by hitting back-to-back fours on the second and third deliveries.

He slammed another six off the pacer over deep mid-wicket on the fifth ball of the fourth over. He followed it up with a four to race to 25 off 19. Mitchell Star got the wicket of Shubman Gill in the following over, but Mitchell Starc did not allow pressure to mount on by smoking a six over long-off to end the 5th over and race to 31 off 20.

Australia introduced Glenn Maxwell in the eighth over to contain the run flow. The opener danced down the ground and lifted the delivery high up in the air for a six over long-on on the fourth delivery he faced from the spinner. Another boundary followed, and with just three balls remaining in the powerplay, Rohit Sharma attempted to go for his fourth six.

However, the 'Hitman' ended up miscuing the shot as Travid Head took a brilliant diving catch at cover-point. The massive crowd at the stadium was left stunned by the catch and the dismissal as Rohit walked back for 47 off 31.

Rohit Sharma, like he has played throughout the tournament, could have easily looked for singles after collecting 10 from the first three balls, but wanted to capitalise further in the powerplay.

The selfless approach of 'Selfless' Rohit Sharma won hearts of billions of fans once again. At the time he departed, the Indian scorecard read - 76/2 in 9.4 overs. He is how fans reacted to Rohit Sharma's innings on X.
