Rohit Sharma continued his poor run with the bat in Test cricket on Monday (December 30) as the Indian skipper fell for 9 in the second innings of the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne.
The Indian captain did all the hard work of seeing off the first few overs and over an hour of play before edging one to Mitchell Marsh at gully as Cummins dismissed Rohit yet again, for the sixth time in his Test career.

The 38-year-old finished a forgetful year in the longest format, garnering 619 runs in 26 innings at a mediocre average of 24.76. In the last 15 innings, Rohit has scored just 164 runs at an average of 10.93, leading to fans and experts questioning his spot in the Test team.
Rohit's performance with bat has prompted fans to demand for his retirement as some even shared an image with a statement from the skipper, while some thanked the Indian batter for his services, indicating that it's time to move on.
Without taking names, commentator Harsha Bhogle took to social media to question the captain's spot and added that all eyes will be on the selectors ahead of the Sydney Test, which starts on January 3.
"It is always difficult to take a call on a senior player. But can it get more difficult than when the player is the captain? Big call for the selectors in the next couple of days," Bhogle posted on X.
Meanwhile another user posted Rohit's numbers from the last 15 innings, and asked if the skipper will do a Ravichandran Ashwin or a Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Ashwin announced his retirement earlier this month, while MS Dhoni, then captain, quit from the longes format after a Boxing Day Test in December 2014.
A lot of memes and posts demanding for Rohit's retirement also started trending on social media after the skipper's continued failure with the bat in the longest format of the game this year.
Rohit's dismissal on day 5 of the Melbourne Test, resulted in another wicket in the same over as Cummins removed KL Rahul for a duck before Virat Kohli, who is also in the spotlight, threw away his wicket at the stroke of lunch, leaving India at 33/3 in their run-chase of 340.
