IND vs AUS: India were in tatters themselves after bundling out Australia for 199 in their first match of the World Cup 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, October 8.
Both their openers departed for a duck before the number four batter also left without scoring a single run. At the end of two overs India were three down for two runs (both byes).

Ishan Kishan departed for a golden duck when he went hard at a Mitchell Starc delivery in the first over only to edge the ball into the hands of Cameron Green in the slip cordon.
Rohit Sharma was trapped in front of the stumps on the third ball of the second over. The second ranked ODI bowler in the world trapped the Indian captain in front of the stumps. He took a review but did not at all come to his rescue.
On the final ball of the same over, Shreyas Iyer played a delivery straight into the hands of David Warner at short cover. Thousands in the stadium and a billion glued to the TV sets were left stunned by the brilliant bowling display by the Australian quicks.
It was in 1983 when both the India batters got out for a duck in an ODI World Cup match. Playing against Zimbabwe, Sunil Gavaskar was dismissed for a 2-ball duck by Peter Rawson. His attacking opening partner Kris Srikkanth played 13 balls without scoring and was dismissed by Kevin Curran.
India were three down for 6, then four down for nine and then 17 down for five. After the fall of Ravi Shastri's wicket, India were left reeling at 7/78. However, captain Kapil Dev played one of the greatest innings in the history of ODI cricket, slamming 175 unbeaten runs off just 138 balls.
His innings consisted of 16 fours and six sixes. India finished at 266/8 in 60 overs and won the match by 31 runs. India later went on to win the World Cup by beating the then two-time defending champions West Indies.
At the time this story was published, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul had forged an 89-run partnership to lead India's recovery. The Indian scorecard read 91/3. India need 200 runs to win the match against five-time champions Australia.
