IND vs AUS: India Donning Pink Kit on Day 3 at SCG, Know Why

By MyKhel Staff

Day three of the fifth Test between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) saw a heartwarming tribute as the Indian cricket team sported pink-accented kits to honor Jane McGrath Day.

This annual event is dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the McGrath Foundation, a charity founded by Australian cricket legend Glenn McGrath in memory of his wife, Jane, who passed away from breast cancer in 2008.

Before play commenced, the Indian players presented signed caps to Glenn McGrath, acknowledging the significance of the occasion. The SCG itself was awash with pink, from the stands and signage to the stumps, symbolizing solidarity with the cause.

The Jane McGrath Day, celebrated during the New Year's Test in Sydney since 2009, is a collaborative initiative by Cricket Australia and the McGrath Foundation. It aims to provide financial support and specialist nurses to breast cancer patients and their families, while also raising global awareness about the disease.

India Joins Australia in a Gesture of Unity

Led by stand-in captain Virat Kohli, the Indian team's gesture of wearing pink highlighted the universal appeal of the cause. Both teams entered the field donning pink caps and jerseys, marking a poignant moment in this highly competitive series.

This year's Pink Test is particularly significant as it coincides with the final match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. While the focus remains on cricket, the day's deeper purpose resonates with players and fans alike.

Glenn McGrath, reflecting on the initiative, said, "Jane would be proud to see how the cricketing world has united for this cause." India are now defending a slender lead in this decisive match.

The spotlight also shines on the spirit of sportsmanship and compassion displayed by both teams. The McGrath Foundation has grown significantly since its inception in 2005, assisting thousands of families affected by breast cancer.
