IND vs AUS: The Indian cricket team on Friday will have the chance to dethrone Pakistan and become the number one ranked team after beating Australia in the first ODI of the three-match series in Mohali.

In fact, a win against Pat Cummins' Australia in the first ODI will see India become the number one ranked team across all the formats. As per the current ODI rankings for teams, Pakistan are occupying the top spot with 115 rating points. India are second and Australia are third with 113 rating points.

India just have to win the home series against Australia if they wish to enter the upcoming World Cup 2023 as the number one ranked team. If India avoid a 3-0 whitewash but still lose the series to Australia, Pakistan will remain the top-ranked side for the World Cup 2023.

On the other hand, a 3-0 win over India will see Australia go on top with India slipping to third spot. Australia will also become the number one ranked team until the third and final ODI on Wednesday, September 27, if they win the first two ODIs.

Pakistan's chances of retaining the No.1 ranking at the start of the World Cup 2023 took a massive blow when they lost their final Super Fours match against Sri Lanka in a last-ball thriller. They don't have any ODI match to play until they meet the Netherlands in their first World Cup 2023 match on October 6 in Hyderabad.

The only way Pakistan can stay at the numero uno position is by hoping India to lose the series 1-2.
