Fasy bowling is a difficult job. If you can shatter the confidence of the batters, you are a super hit. And if you cannot take wickets and 'leak' runs, it can be heart-breaking. At the Gabba on Sunday, there was one man who roared like a lion - Jasprit Bumrah.
Nothing new, he has already grabbed 17 wickets in this BGT Series, and the five-wicket haul against the marauding Aussie batters is proof, Boom will bowl his heart out and take wickets. The support cast, sadly, was a disaster, where the much-hyped Akash Deep came a cropper, after he had come into the side for Harshit Rana.

Akash Deep sure has a huge lobby backing him. Even when he has not taken a single wicket in the third Test, he is being praised. If experts and media turn into cheerleaders this is what will happen, you will say Akash Dep bowled well. Damnit, if you are a fast bowler, show that energy, speed, swing and whatever you can to take wickets.
It is sad, rather myopic vision, Akash Deep has so many supporters who say he was 'unlucky' on Sunday. Do you overlook his bowling analysis of zero wickets for 78 runs after bowling around 24 overs. The discourse is not about Akash Deep being a bad bowler. He is good, he has everything, finally what matters is snarl wickets.
The way Travis Head and Steve Smith took the Indian bowling attack to the cleaners, hammering the hell out of the red ball and posting centuries, only a Bumrah could have done the damage. Sadly, the support cast failed miserably. Mohd Siraj was also rendered impotent, though he took one wicket. Nitish Reddy had no clue and Ravindra Jadeja, who came in for R.Ashwin also got no wicket. This has become a theatre of the absurd, first Test, Washington Sundar played, second Test Ashwin came in. Then the brainwave, bring in Jadeja.
Who is making these changes, skipper Rohit Sharma or coach Gautam Gambhir? It is laughable, because the captain is being castigated. Imagine, someone like even Anil Kumble says Rohit has no clue what to do as a leader. Is Rohit at fault or a bowling failure fans know best. Fans are knowledgeable and discerning, they could see Bumrah toil so hard and take wickets. It is almost as if he is the lone warrior, a Rambo of sorts who can gun down the batters. Just after the second Test, Rohit Sharma had said: "Jasprit Bumrah cannot bowl from both ends."
Those words rang like a bell, loudly, on Sunday. Bumrah was all boom and energy. He has taken 17 wickets till now in this series. At one stage in the day, he was holding his leg. od is kind, he is fit and bowled. This is very reminiscent of the good old days when India had one fast bowler who had to bat, bowl and field, Kapil Dev.
Bumrah is also like Kapil, bowling his heart out. But for how long will he do it. The way he has been toiling without saying a word, Bumrah is the lone soldier on the war front to pull the trigger. He has turned 31, he knows he is strong but one bowler alone cannot win you a Test, forget a whole series. The support cast for the bearded assassin looks pathetic. In Adelaide, we were made to believe the Pink Ball is not suited for the Indian bowlers. And for the batters, sighting the Pink Ball is tough. Does that mean every bowler other than Bumrah has no pedigree?
One feels bad for Rohit Sharma, he had almost predicted after the second Test, the attack cannot rely on just Bumrah. The vice-captain is not complaining but given the conditions in Australia, heat plus surfaces where he has to do more to produce the magic, it's tough. Fast bowling looks good when two bowlers hunt in tandem. Perhaps, the rain god needs to help India now. There is a forecast for showers over the next three days.
