Jasprit Bumrah achieved a historic milestone coming into 2025 by surpassing Ravichandran Ashwin's ICC Test rankings record for bowlers. Bumrah ended 2024 as the leading wicket-taker in Tests, claiming 71 scalps in the year and cementing his place at the top of the charts.
With 907 points, the 31-year-old has climbed to joint-17th in the all-time ICC Test rankings for bowlers, sharing the spot with England's Derek Underwood. He surpassed Ravichandran Ashwin's previous Indian record of 904 points, marking a significant achievement in his career.

His exceptional performance in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series has seen him take nine wickets in the MCG clash between India and Australia, further cementing his position as the No. 1 Test bowler in the latest ICC rankings update. Additionally, Bumrah is leading the 2024-25 BGT campaign with 30 wickets, showcasing his dominance in the series.
Along with this feat, he is also shortlisted for the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year award for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy and also the ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year award.
Also in the Boxing Day Test match, the Mumbai Indians man became the fastest Indian pacer to reach 200 wickets in Test cricket. He surpassed the previous record held by the legendary Kapil Dev, who took 50 matches to achieve the milestone during a Test against West Indies in March 1983 in Port of Spain.
He is also the fourth fastest bowler to reach 200 Test wickets in terms of balls bowled, achieving the milestone in 8,484 balls. The record is held by Pakistan's Waqar Younis, who reached 200 wickets in 7,725 balls, followed by South Africa's Dale Steyn (7,848 balls) and Kagiso Rabada (8,153 balls).
As India are already trailing 2-1 in the series, the Rohit Sharma-led side will have to win the final test in Sydney, which will keep their hopes of making it to the World Test Championship (WTC) Final alive.
