Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is expected to feature in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2024-25, slated to begin on December 21.
Shami, who recently made a comeback to cricket for Bengal in the Indian domestic season following an injury, was initially anticipated to feature in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy for India in Australia.

However, current developments suggest that his participation may no longer be on the cards as per a report by Revsportz.
The 34-year-old's fitness continues to be a matter of concern, with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) likely to clear him for international duty only if he is deemed to be at full fitness. He may be tasked with improving his conditioning by bowling extended spells in domestic cricket. The focus now appears to be on preparing him for a potential comeback during the Champions Trophy in March 2025. Shami will be aiming to regain his form and fitness in time to earn a spot for that crucial tournament.
The India speedster was away for an year from competitive cricket due to surgery following the 2023 ODI World Cup. His return has been closely monitored by Indian fans, eager to see him fit and available for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, Shami's comeback has been less than ideal, with limited appearances in the Ranji Trophy before the domestic calendar shifted to T20 cricket this month.
In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Shami's performance in Bengal's loss to Baroda raised concerns as he conceded 43 runs in his 4-over spell. This marked the third instance in the tournament where his economy rate exceeded 10 runs per over, indicating that he may still be working his way back to peak form.
The star pacer will be next seen in action during the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 for Bengal and would definitely have his eyes on the title after a quarter-final exit in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
