IND vs AUS: Mohammed Siraj 'Booed' in Brisbane, Sunil Gavaskar slams Aussie Spectators

By MyKhel Staff

India pacer Mohammed Siraj hasn't made many friends since his emotional outburst in Adelaide.

Siraj, after dismissing Travis Head in the Adelaide Test, was seen in an animated celebration and the duo had their share of words.

The words continued even after the match as Travis Head spoke about not expecting that behaviour from Siraj in the press conference. The India pacer then came back denying Head's claims and accused the southpaw of abusing him.

"It was a great battle with Head; he batted well. When you get hit for a six on a good ball, it fires you up differently. But what he said in the press conference wasn't true," Siraj said.

After that, ICC sanctioned both players and Siraj was even fined for his act. And fast forward to the Gabba Test, the India pacer was greeted with boos by the Australian crowd. India captain Rohit Sharma decided to Bowl after winning the Toss and as Siraj came to bowl, he was greeted not so warmly by the Gabba spectators. It was the same in Adelaide as well when Siraj was not shown any love by the Adelaide crowd.

Although the crowd has booed Siraj, India legend and commentator Sunil Gavaskar has firmly stood beside the India speed ster and took a dig at the Aussie spectators for their hypocrisy.

"Siraj is getting the stick from all the "saints" in Australian cricket who, of course, were known for their impeccable behaviour on the field. It may have incensed Australian fans that Siraj's fiery send-off was directed at Head, who scored a magnificent century and was also the local boy," Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sydney Morning Herald.

"But the same people will cheer if an Aussie quick gives a similar send-off to an English batter during next summer's Ashes. There were some suggestions in the media that the Australians should get back to being the mongrels they once were. So, do mongrels simply purr, or do they bark, too," the India legend added.

Speaking of the 3rd Test, the first day's play is in jeopardy due to incessant rain in Brisbane. The match was played for 13.2 overs when the rain came and it has now stopped the play around two hours now. Australia is currently 28 for no loss as Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney are at the crease.
