IND vs AUS: Suresh Raina, ex India star batter believes that 25-year-old pace sensation Arshdeep Singh deserved a spot in the Indian squad for their current Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia during the 2024-25 season.
There were other bowlers like Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav, who missed the fight to Australia but the 38-year-old feels that Arshdeep has the ability to flourish in red-ball cricket and be successful like a Zaheer Khan or an Ashish Nehra.

"After a long time, I saw a tall fast bowler from North India. He is six foot four, he has good swing, reverse swing. He gives it his all when bowling. From my heart, I am saying Arshdeep Singh should play Test cricket. He has a unique angle to flourish with the red ball. There was Zaheer Khan, then Ashish Nehra, RP Singh, Wasim Akram. Arshdeep has a wrist position and action that will suit Test match cricket," Raina said during 'Champions Session' of Agenda AajTak.
India are also going to England in June, 2025 and believes that his breakthroughs both with the new and old ball will be pivotal.
"He should have gone to Australia. But there are big series coming up. India are going to England. He will be useful in getting those breakthroughs with the new ball and the old ball. He has it in him," he further added.
Arshdeep has built a strong name for himself, prompting Punjab Kings (PBKS) to spend an impressive Rs 18 crore to secure him during the recent auction held in Saudi Arabia. Over the course of 153 T20 games, he has claimed 203 wickets while maintaining an economy rate of 8.47.
Since his debut in July 2022, the left-arm speedster has established himself in T20I and ODI formats, but he is still awaiting an opportunity to represent India in Test cricket.
''As a player, we all start with red balls. At the age-group level, we play only with the red ball. The first thing you hold is a red ball. It's fun bowling with the red ball because it swings at the start. And when you maintain it well, you can swing it when it's old also. It is a different joy," the PBKS man reflected on his Test ambition on the same show.
