
Australia captain Pat Cummins has lost his mother as she passed away on Friday after a long battle with illness.
Maria Cummins, Pat's mother, was battling a long-term illness and died in Sydney. She was reportedly suffering from breast cancer and was fighting the disease for a long time.
Cricket Australia confirmed the news and said the players would be wearing a black armband as a mark of respect to her.
"We are deeply saddened at the passing of Maria Cummins overnight. On behalf of Australian Cricket, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Pat, the Cummins family and their friends. The Australian Men's team will today wear black armbands as a mark of respect," they wrote.
Australia captain Pat Cummins left the touring team to stay beside his mother who was already in palliative care.
Australia are currently playing the 4th and final Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Ahmedabad. The Aussies are trailing the series 2-1 and are being led by Steve Smith.
