Travis Head and Steve Smith etched their names into the record books with a monumental 241-run partnership for the fourth wicket at the Gabba, Brisbane. Their stand, forged during the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
It then became the highest-ever partnership against India at the venue, eclipsing the previous best of 148 runs between Smith and Mitchell Johnson in 2014. This exceptional effort also stands as the third-highest fourth-wicket partnership in Gabba's history.

It was behind the 259-run effort by Ed Cowan and Michael Clarke against South Africa in 2012 and the 245-run stand by Michael Clarke and Michael Hussey against Sri Lanka in 2007.
Head led the charge with a breathtaking 152 off 160 balls, an innings studded with 19 boundaries. He showcased remarkable aggression against India's bowling attack, countering pace and spin with equal ease. Smith played the perfect anchor, crafting a patient 101 from 190 balls.
The partnership came together after Australia was struggling at 73/3 early on Day 2. From there, the duo turned the tide, punishing every mistake from the Indian bowlers. Their ability to balance aggression and defense allowed Australia to take control of the match.
Head was eventually dismissed by Nitish Kumar Reddy, with Rishabh Pant taking a sharp catch behind the stumps. Shortly after, Smith fell to Jasprit Bumrah, with Rohit Sharma completing the dismissal at slip. Despite these dismissals, the duo's partnership laid a strong foundation for Australia's innings.
Their 241-run stand not only set a new benchmark against India but also highlighted the Gabba's historical significance in producing game-changing partnerships. The duo surpassed the iconic efforts of past Australian greats.
This included Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting's 140-run partnership in 2003 and Damien Martyn and Steve Waugh's unbeaten 128 in the same year.
This partnership has significantly tilted the balance in Australia's favor, leaving India with a steep challenge. With both Head and Smith back in form, this knock will be remembered as one of the defining moments in their careers and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
