India captain Rohit Sharma got stumped out off left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann's on the final delivery of his first over on Day 1 of the third Test between India and Australia at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Wednesday.

Rohit Sharma's two lifelines in first over

In an ultra-dramatic first over, Rohit nicked the first delivery of the match from Mitchell Starc into the hands of wicket-keeper Alex Carey. However, the visitors decided against a review after a huddle. The replays soon showed that Rohit had comprehensively edged the delivery.

On the fourth delivery of the same over, Australia appealed for an LBW dismissal against the right-hander. The on-field umpire nodded in disagreement and stand-in captain Steve Smith after discussions with his player opted against a review again. The replays later showed three reds.

After getting twice in the first four balls, the 35-year-old hit three good-looking boundaries before finally running out of luck on the last delivery of the sixth over. Kuhnemann bowled four consecutive dot balls to the Mumbai batter as Rohit shimmied down the track to counterattack on the fifth, however, he was beaten by the flight as Carey did rest of the job.

IND vs AUS: India collapse after Rohit's departure

The Indian innings collapsed soon after the departure of the in-form batter. Shubman Gill (21), Cheteshwar Pujara (1), Ravindra Jadeja (4) and Shreyas Iyer (0) departed one after the other and the home side were left reeling on 45/5 in just 11.2 overs. Later, Virat Kohli also departed for 22.

Earlier, India won the toss and elected to bat first. Gill replaced out-of-form KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami, who has been rested, was replaced by Umesh Yadav. Australia have also made two changes in their eleven. Senior pacer Mitchell Starc has replaced Pat Cummins who is back in Australia to attend to his ailing mother. All-rounder Cameron Green was also included in place of injured David Warner.

India are leading the 4-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-0. A win in any of the last two Test matches will see them qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
