The obvious speculations regarding Rohit Sharma finally turend out to be true as India's Test captain has been dropped for the final test in Sydney of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy owing to 'rest'.
The team's vice-captain, Jasprit Bumrah takes up the role of leading the side to another victory under him.

On 2nd Jan, it was reported that Rohit Sharma has opted him out of the Test to 'rest', in which both the head coach Gautam Gambhir and even Chief selector, Ajit Agarkar had no problem in agreeing with the 37-year-old's decision.
''We are looking to bat first. We have played some good cricket. The last match was exciting. The grass doesn't look spicy. We always have learnt to digest defeats. We will look forward to this. Our skipper has opted to rest. It shows the unity we have. We have two changes. Rohit has opted out and Prasidh comes in for the injured Akashdeep'', Bumrah said at the toss.
Even there were speculations that Rishabh Pant will also be dropped from the squad and Dhruv Jurel might get the nod ahead of him. But Pant has someone retained his place. Shubman Gill has come into replace Rohit, while Prasidh Krishna will play the final test, replacing Akash Deep in the playing XI.
There's no doubt that Rohit Sharma didn't have the best of runs with the bat in the ongoing series and now the 37-year-old opting out gives a huge hint that the Hitman's time has come when it comes to the longest format of the game. Will he retire like Ashwin did in the Brisbane Test? We have to wait and watch.
