IND vs AUS: Rohit Sharma 'Opts' To Rest! Netizens React To Hitman's Omission From Sydney Test

Rohit Sharma 'Opts' to rest: India Test captain Rohit Sharma has opted himself out of the 5th and final Test of ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy as Jasprit Bumrah takes up his place in the leadership role.

Reports came thick and fast about Rohit's omission, where the 37-year-old has 'opted' himself out of the Test and head coach Gautam Gambhir and Chief selector Ajit Agarkar had no problem whatsoever with the decision.

Ever since, the Mumbai Indians man took charge from the 2nd Test, things went downhill from there as India lost 2 matches, while drawing the Brisbane Test.

Social media has been buzzing since yesterday and after the official announcement, it sent X (Former Twitter) into frenzy as fans kept on pouring in their opinions.

''NO ROHIT SHARMA NO CRICKET MATCH'', a fan voiced his frustration.

''Hard luck rohit sharma but I think it's over for him in test format I think he played is last match already'', another fan wrote.

Rohit's performance in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) has been a significant dip in form, as reflected by his numbers. Scoring only 31 runs across five innings at an average of 6.20 indicates a struggle against the opposition's bowling attack. These numbers are particularly striking because they are far below his usual standards as a top-order batter.

Looking at his overall form since the beginning of 2024, the trend remains concerning. Across 14 matches, he managed to accumulate 619 runs at an average of 24.76, which is also below par for a player of his caliber. Despite scoring two hundreds and two fifties, the inconsistency in converting starts and maintaining momentum in other matches stands out.

Nevertheless, India have opted to bat first after winning the toss and the usual pair of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal took the crease. At the time of writing this article, India are reeling at 20/2 after both the openers made their way back to the pavilion early on.
