IND vs AUS: With the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy just around the corner, the uncertainty surrounding Indian captain Rohit Sharma's participation in the first Test in Perth continues.

While the team has already touched down in Australia, Rohit, who remains in Mumbai, has been hard at work, training intensely at the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) facilities and the Reliance Corporate Park (RCP).

According to the Times of India, Rohit's focus is on keeping his skills sharp and ready for the challenge, should he be able to make it to Australia. The 37-year-old opener's departure is currently contingent on personal circumstances, as he awaits the birth of his second child.

A source close to the developments told TOI, "He is doing what any father would at this stage, which is to stay with his wife and family. But at the same time, he is ensuring to be well-tuned for the Test series and will be batting at every possible opportunity in Mumbai."

The captain's commitment to staying match-fit speaks volumes about his dedication, even as he navigates this personal milestone.

While Rohit's participation remains up in the air, the Indian team has a contingency plan in place. Head coach Gautam Gambhir has announced that Jasprit Bumrah, the vice-captain, will take over leadership duties if Rohit is unavailable. Additionally, the squad has prepared for alternative opening pairings, with Abhimanyu Easwaran and KL Rahul expected to step in as options.

The Indian contingent began their journey to Australia in two groups on November 10 and 11. Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Washington Sundar were among the first to arrive, accompanied by assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. Meanwhile, former captain Virat Kohli reached Perth early, arriving on November 10 with his family, setting the stage for an intense training camp.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy kicks off on November 22 in Perth, with the second Test scheduled as a Day-Night match in Adelaide. India's preparations include a two-day practice match in Canberra before the Adelaide Test, providing players ample time to adapt to the conditions.

As the high-profile series approaches, all eyes remain on Rohit Sharma's status, as his potential absence would be a significant adjustment for the team. Yet, India's rigorous preparations and adaptable strategy underscore their readiness to face Australia's challenge.
