India captain Rohit Sharma has blamed his team's incapability to capitalize at times as the reason for their defeat against Australia in the 4th Test.
India lost the crucial match at Melbourne by 184 runs and have now fallen 1-2 behind in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Rohit Sharma, the dejected Indian captain spoke at the post-match presentation where he outlined the reasons behind the poor result again. And he says they failed to assert their authority and let Australia come back in the match.
"We wanted to fight till the end. But unfortunately, they couldn't do it. It'll be tough to just assess the last two sessions. If you look at the overall test match, we had our opportunities. We had our chances. We just didn't take them, and we let Australia come back into the game when we had them 90 for six. But again, I know things can get difficult and get tough as well, but that is what we are here for. We want to be in the tough situation. We want to play hard cricket. But, yeah, I mean, look, I don't want to look at only one incident that happened in the game. We just were not good enough," Rohit said.
Rohit Sharma also says that the team tried everything to skittle the hosts for a paltry total in the 2nd innings, but failed to do so. The India captain also admitted they wanted to go for the win but acknowledged the team is failing to find ways of winning matches.
"I mean, I went back to my room and thought about it. What else we could have done as a team But we tried everything we could. We thought we threw everything that we had. They fought hard in that partnership with the last wicket partnership. And then we knew 340 wasn't gonna be easy for us. We wanted to set the platform if we have wickets in hand, we can go for those runs in the last two sessions. But they bowled perfectly as well and that didn't happen from our side, obviously. We want to have that positive mindset no matter what the situation is. You want to try and win games and want to find ways to win games. It's just that, you know, there are ways to win games, and we are falling short in finding ways to win games," the India captain added.
Amid the gloom of India's defeat, Nitish Kumar Reddy was the solitary bright spark for the team. The 21-year-old scored his maiden international century in the first innings and helped India to avoid the follow-on. And Rohit heaped praises on the youngster.
"Nitish showed great character, lot of fight and showed lot of showed solid technique as well battling there in the middle. He's got a bright future ahead of him. He's got everything that is required to be successful at this level. I just hope that he goes from strength to strength, and he's obviously got a lot of backing from the team as well," he continued.
India's Test credentials have taken a huge hit as they have now lost five of their last seven Test matches. The final Test of the series will be played in Sydney, which starts from January 3.
